These are a feast for the eyes and the imagination – and a wonderful store for the mind’s eye of a reader. Particularly a reader who is currently reading this:
(first time, and loving it, by the way!)
A few first-hand castle images inhabit my imagination. We visited Ireland 15 years ago on a B&B/driving tour. Twas a lovely trip, filled with castle-sightings. In fact, such sightings became almost too commonplace: “Oh, look, there’s another one.” Of course, we visited Blarney Castle. Alas, I did not kiss the stone. I was a bit unnerved when they told me I would have to lean out over this enormous chasm. But I had this adorable excuse . . .
By the way, if you want to get lots of attention from and conversation with the locals, I highly recommend visiting Ireland with a cheerful black-haired, brown-eyed, red-cheeked baby named Connor along.
